Areas of Unique Focus: Art Therapy and Suicide Loss.

Have you been impacted by suicide loss?

In Canada, more than 4,000 individuals die by suicide each year.  For family, friends and the broader community, grief associated with suicide loss is far reaching, complex and long-term. Experiences of stigma, anger, self-blame, shame, guilt, longing and regret can adversely impact the survivors’ ability to heal.

Art Therapy is particularly conducive to grief related work.  In the case of suicide loss, art therapy allows for the emergence of the larger story of the impact of suicide loss to be placed outside of oneself.  For those bereaved by suicide loss, an absence of support  following the death can lead to isolation and prolonged/complicated grief.

For those affected by suicide loss, I offer both Talk and Art Therapy sessions  to individuals and groups.  The content of these sessions/groups recognizes the unique needs of suicide loss mourners. I draw from my own experience with suicide loss, as well as my research on Art Therapy and suicide loss, completed for my graduate thesis.  Please contact me, through the contact page, for more information about suicide loss related services.

For Agencies Seeking a Group Facilitator: Please contact me if you are an agency member seeking training on best practices for suicide loss mourners or if you are interested in having a Suicide Loss Art Therapy Bereavement Group hosted at your site.
